It’s time to chew bubblegum and form variable-sized groups capable of defeating other variable-sized groups in team-based competitive combat, and we’re all out of gum!
The Enter the Cryo-Plex update is almost here, and with it comes a new arena—Cryo-Plex—and a new Arena Season. Those competing in the new season will have the opportunity to gain unique cosmetic rewards at the end, and get a leg up with gear as they head into Season 3.
Seasons offer arena teams the ability to jump into Rated matches against other teams of similar skill, climb the ranks, and receive rare rewards like mounts and titles.
While anyone can queue for Open (unrated) matches starting at character level 30, playing in competitive (Rated) Arena Seasons requires level 50, and an Arena team formed with other specific players—with teams of 2, 3, or 5 players. Generally teams are going to be made up of guildmates and friends, but there are always people looking for Arena teams, and one good place to look for others is on the Arena forum. You can be in one team of each team size, and each team size allows for some additional “slush” above the actual competing size—2v2 teams can have 3 members, 3v3 teams can have 5 members, and 5v5 teams can have 9 members.
Teams can improve and increase in rating throughout a Season, and earn and lose rating based on their wins and losses, although only 3v3 teams will earn rewards at the end of a Season. When a Season ends we’ll identify each team’s final position, determine eligible players based on minimum requirements (at least 25 matches played on the team), and then deliver rewards based on their team’s placement. The very best teams in each region (top 5 teams) will receive unique weapons, mount, pet, and a title; the top 10% of teams will receive a unique mount, pet, and title; and the top 50% of teams will receive a unique pet and title.
We’ll have more information on the rewards, as well as when Season 2 will end, in the months ahead. Until then, crack your knuckles, grit your teeth, and fight your way to the top.
The southern tip of Olyssia’s coast is broken up by a complex series of towering rock formations known as the Shards. Dating from the earliest phases of the Nexus Project, the Shards are a byproduct of Eldan geological and primal earth experiments. Due to their extraordinary elevation, combined with the climate of the extreme southern region of Olyssia, the Shards are freezing on the warmest of days.
Prior to exploration of the Shards by the Dominion and Exiles, Protostar dispatched a large number of survey teams to investigate the area. Though little in the way of natural resources was discovered during these evaluations, Protostar did find the remains of an Eldan research station. After several weeks of profit analysis, the clones determined that the area was too dangerous. As a result, upper management decided to scrap the project to avoid further casualties.
In the time since Protostar’s retreat from the Shards, many other groups have come and gone. The artifacts in the research station have proven to be a powerful incentive for explorers and thieves, especially since they are a valuable source of Eldan data. As a result, more than one band of treasure-hunters has fought (and died) in the lofty heights that are now referred to as “the Cryo-Plex,” and even those with no interest in Eldan secrets go there to scrape their knuckles or settle a score.
