It was the last day of gamescom and everyone on the WildStar team was just as excited as we were the first day. We knew we were presenting a good game, a game we loved, but had no idea how well it would be received.
The fans at gamescom, the media, and everyone online has been so receptive to WildStar. We are honored to have been able to debut it at this show.
With such a positive energy in the air, it felt like the day just flew by!
Senior Community Manager Robert Land and Associate Producer Katy Fairbanks helped pass out goodies to the fans waiting at our booth for the live WildStar demonstration. Immediately following that, the emote contest began!
Members of the audience were chosen to mimic an emote from one of the characters on screen. The three emotes they had to perform were the granok cheer, human cry, and aurin laugh. If you follow this link, you'll see pictures of the contenders and how it turned out. Or follow this link and see a video of each participant in action!
After a little time to reset the stage, Associate Producer Ian Conway joined Robert Land on stage to give out a few more gifts to the audience. Everyone loved Ian and ended up cheering "Ian! Ian! Ian! Ian!" by the time it was over! After Ian and Robert left the stage, it was time for the live drawing session with Senior Concept Artist Andy Cotnam - coordinated by European Community Lead Loic Claveau!
This session was a little different than our last! Starting with a torso, Andy took suggestions from the audience (helped by Art Director Matt Mocarski and Senior Creative Writer Chad Moore) and sketched what they wanted. After adding leg rockets, a reactor on its back, four floating eyes, and a long tail, a creature was born! We went to the live stream for a name and decided that Echo had the best suggestion. Therefore, we present to you: Metal Maw!
Check this out to see Matt and Chad recap the event. They're just as happy as the people creating it were!
After that, we spent the rest of the time on the floor, talking to fans about WildStar. That is, until closing time. Then we took all the extra loot that hadn't been given out over the course of the show and spent time throwing it to the group that had collected at the booth.
We are worn out, our legs hurt, and some of us have lost our voices. But we wouldn't have it any other way. This was beyond what we anticipated our reception would be at gamescom. You all made this the best announcement we could have dreamed and we hope to see you all again next year!
But, for now, good-bye Cologne!
