WildStar Wednesday: Welcome to 2013!
By Carbine Community Team - January 02, 2013
New Year's has come and gone, but it's given us time to reflect on the things that are most important to us as a Community team. We wanted to take this week to discuss our community philosophies and lay them out here as our New Year's Resolutions.
For the year 2013, the Carbine Studios Community Team resolves to:
- Talk to you on your turf. While our website will always be the central repository for everything WildStar, you shouldn't feel like you need to leave your comfort zone in order to have your voice heard, whether that be Facebook, Reddit, a general gaming forum, or even your guild's website. We'll come to you and not only listen, but respond and engage on your terms.
- Give you a voice in the studio. Design decisions should never seem to come out of thin air. We want you to be a part of the discussions from beginning to end. Let's meet up on a livestream and have a design meeting right then and there. Did you post a good idea on our forum? Don't be surprised if you get a phone call from us asking to discuss it in more detail with you.
- Experiment with new ideas for how an MMO community should work. The tried-and-true method of asking everyone to post on forums and then wait for responses is still viable, but we want to push the envelope when it comes to our community. We won't be afraid to try new things, even if they should fail, because we think the end result will be a closer relationship between the players and ourselves.
- Use beta as a safe environment for feedback. Too many "beta" releases these days tend to be at a point where it's too late for feedback to make any large impact in the game. We want our beta to be different, to be an opportunity for players to tell us whether our direction is right or wrong. And if it's wrong, we'll fix it together with you.
It's easy for us to put these things on paper and discuss them internally, but we feel it's more important to put this out there, "on the record," for all to see. We'll be holding ourselves to these standards as we approach the release of WildStar, and we want you to hold us to them as well. Let's work together to grow our community into something to be admired across the entire industry. Let's make 2013 the year of WildStar!
Happy New Year,
Loic, David, and Troy
